 Center Marine Geology and Mineral Resources (previously known as Union Marine Geology) has conducted the investigation, detection of areas with huge potential for building materials (materials) in the coastal areas of Vietnam.

Coastal areas about 100 mineral mines, especially building materials are very abundant in types and rich reserves. Meanwhile, demand for construction materials in Vietnam, increasing high to serve urban areas, industrial zones, transport works, seaports ...

In Ba Ria - Vung Tau, the Management Board of industrial zones for the province, the total demand for materials leveled from now to 2020 to 211.8 million m3 by 2010 accounted for nearly 160 million m3. Reserve materials of the fact about 52 mil/m3, only meet about 33% of the material needs leveled in 2010. Risk of a serious lack leveled materials for projects is the cause of slow progress of some works.

From 1991 to present, Center for Marine Geology and Minerals made several proposals, project geotechnical investigation and search of solid minerals from the sea shore of Vietnam 0-100m, the results show potential building materials seabed is very large.

According to Vu Truong Son - Director Center for Marine Geology and Minerals sea Vietnam has quite a lot of potential geological resources and minerals. "The Center has determined there are about 35 kinds of mineral scale, exploitation of reserves vary from small to large groups of fuels, metals, construction materials, precious materials which mainly ... as sand, pebbles and gravel. Results are based on the results of geological survey and mineral research in different ratios (1:500.000, 1:100,000, and 1:50.000). This will be the basis of science in policy making, construction projects of socio-economic development, security and defense sector maritime islands.

Thus, coastal waters from 0-30m of Vietnam is very promising for materials, especially from the sea of Binh Thuan Province to Soc Trang, the North Sea Central with a total resource materials for forecasting waters was investigated, evaluated approximately 86 billion m3. Future demand for building materials, especially materials leveled for economic development are increasing, it should put the issue to exploit these minerals in the sea. Research, investigation, exploration and exploitation of materials carried to the sea floor should be strengthened in time to meet the new demands of economic development of the country.
